Working With an Interpreter

Procedures and Guidelines For Booking Interpreters

Bookings for Interpreters to attend private medical and health care appointments can be made by the Deaf Consumer or the Health Care provider.

Only interpreters with current NAATI qualifications will be booked to attend private medical and health care appointments.

Only interpreters with a NDIS Worker Clearance will be booked to attend appointments for NDIS participants.

In consultation with Deaf consumers NABS will make all reasonable efforts to provide an interpreter based on your particular needs, local availability and cost.

In circumstances where the appointment is cancelled or changed by either the Deaf Consumer OR Health Care provider NABS must be notified immediately.  NABS will ensure that all parties are notified of any cancellation or change.

NABS is to consider and apply as appropriate the standards for access, availability, communications, and respecting the rights and needs of customers as specified in codes of conduct and practice for the relevant professional group. NABS must ensure compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
