Important information about NABS after 30 June 2024

For health practices that book interpreters for clients.

Wesley Mission Queensland will be closing its National Auslan Interpreter Booking and Payment Service (NABS) from 30 June 2024.

NABS have notified the Deaf community and have also advised our interpreters of this closure.

From 1 July 2024

From 1 July 2024,your practice will not be able to book an interpreter through the NABS service and you will need to book as follows:

  • Clients 65 years and older who are not eligible for the National Disability Scheme (NDIS) are to be booked through the Department of Health and Aged Care’s National Sign Language (NSLP) Program which is operated by Deaf Connect.  Should you need to book an interpreter on behalf of the client, please complete Deaf Connect interpreter booking form and email to interpreting@deafconnect.org.au. Deaf Connect can also be contacted on 1300 773 803.

  • Clients funded by NDIS will need to book through an interpreting service of their choice.  If your practice books the interpreter on behalf of the client, then the client will need to advise you of the interpreter service they wish to use.

For any appointment after 30 June 2024 where NABS has confirmed an attending interpreter, our team have liaised with the relevant parties and Deaf clients to rebook the interpreter.

Finally, we also ask you to remove and dispose of any NABS collateral such as booking forms, posters and business cards.

Our team at NABS thank you for your continued support over the years in ensuring that clients have an interpreter for their health and medical appointments.
