Bruce Shaw with the trophy for the winning Tri Nations team

- By Bruce Shaw, President Sydney Stars Deaf Tenpin Bowling Club

From 17th to 21st April, 2014, the Sydney Stars Deaf Tenpin Bowling Club will be hosting the National Deaf Tenpin Bowling Championships at Blacktown in Sydney, NSW.

The National Deaf Tenpin Bowling Championships are played every Easter in a different location all over Australia. They are hosted by different States every year except for any dates which fall on the ‘0’ or ‘5’ year anniversary. They are decided by the Board.

This year will be the 32nd year that the National Deaf Tenpin Bowling Association has been running.

This year is very special because we have invited Argentina to join us. There will be 8 deaf bowlers from Argentina plus one fan, 12 deaf bowlers from New Zealand and 1 from USA. The first time ever we have had 3 different overseas countries compete.

Every 2nd year we hold the Tasman Cup Tournament between Australia and New Zealand. This year it will be held in Australia. In 2012 it was held in Dunedin, New Zealand and Australia brought the trophy home.

This coming Tournament there will be a Tri Nation event which will be held on 21st April between Australia, Argentina and New Zealand. This will be a one off event. Teams will consist of 6 men and 6 women from each country, a total of 36 bowlers.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank NABS for their kind sponsorship which is a beautiful trophy for the 1st place team for the Tri Nations event.

We wish everyone all the best in the National Deaf Tenpin Bowling Championships, 2014.
