You are welcome to use this register to help choose your interpreter.
NABS cannot promise the interpreter you choose will be available. When making a booking please give us 3 or 4 names of interpreters we can call for you.
- NABS books interpreters:
- If they are the Deaf person’s choice
- If the interpreter is available
- If the interpreter is in your area
If your chosen interpreter is not available or cannot be booked for any other reason NABS will contact you.
This is not the full list of interpreters registered with NABS. NABS has over 500 interpreters registered with us. The interpreters who are on the register are the ones who have agreed to have their details put onto the website. If your chosen interpreter(s) are not listed or does not appear on this register please ask NABS for them when making a booking.

What is NABS?
Everything you need to know
NABS is the National Auslan Interpreter Booking and Payment Service. It is funded by the Department of Families Community Services and Indigenous Affairs. NABS is based at the corporate office of Wesley Mission Brisbane, in Brisbane and provides services Australia-wide.
NABS provides interpreters to any person who uses sign language to communicate and would like an interpreter for private medical appointments. It is free of charge to Sign Language users and medical and health care practitioners. All interpreting services to Aboriginal and Islander Sign Language users are provided free of charge for both public and private health appointments.
Bookings for interpreting services can be made for both deaf adults and deaf children. This includes situations where there is a deaf adult and a hearing child or a hearing adult and a deaf child attending a private medical consultation. NABS also provides interpreters for deaf/blind people.
NABS operates nationally between the hours of 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday and from 8am to 1pm on Saturday, excluding all national Public Holidays.
